We had a fabulous day at Church Farm, Ardeley on Wednesday. The children entered the world of being real farmers and planters. Church Farm is a working farm and therefore, everything we did was part of everyday farm life. After a talk about keeping ourselves safe, we got straight to work. We began with a farm tour where we got to feed some of the animals, including pigs, cows and goats; we even made the turkeys gobble! One of our jobs for the day was to plant some of the many seeds which will become vegetables in the Summer and sold in the farm shop. We had to ensure each seed was placed with space to grow. We visited Simon, Lily and Snowball, the far rabbits on the way and were very keen to bring them back to school with us! Our next task was to collect eggs, directly from the hen houses. We couldn’t believe how large the eggs were and some children even took them from under the hens so they still felt warm. With lunch in the middle of the day, we had a fabulous adventure and could not have been more proud of our little farmers!
