School Dinner

Newport Primary School has been awarded Healthy School status.  This means that we encourage a healthy balanced lunch.  At our school, children are welcome to have a hot school lunch or the alternative option (baguette or soup).  The school lunch is served with a dessert and children are free to choose from the salad bar, there is always fresh fruit available. We are able to cater for children who are vegetarian, vegan or follow a halal diet. Our menus are reviewed half termly, you can find our most recent menu below.  School meals cost £2.80 per day.  

Ocassionally, we offer themed lunches such as Bonfire Night or Chinese New Year, and of course a Christmas dinner in December. 

Packed Lunch

If children do not want the school lunch option, then they are welcome to bring in a healthy packed lunch.  Please ensure that items such as grapes, cocktail sausages and cherry tomatoes are cut vertically to reduce a choking hazard.  Some children in our school have a nut allergy.  We are therefore a strictly nut free school.  This means that items such as: peanut butter, Nutella or alternative choclate spread with nuts in, some cereal and granola bars, cakes that contain nuts, biscuits.cookies that contain nuts, food that has satay in them, sauces that contain nuts are not prohibited.  Please check all ingredients before putting them in your child's lunch box - thank you for your understanding and support.  

Free School Meals 

All children in Reception, Year 1 and Year 2 are entitled to a Universal Free School Meal.  

However, once children reach Year 3, this is means tested and is only available for families in receipt of the following benefits:

• Income Support
• Income-based Jobseekers Allowance
• Child Tax Credit (provided you are not also entitled to Working Tax Credit)
• Pension Guarantee Credit
• Employment and Support Allowance, income related
• Support under part V1 of the Immigration and Asylum Act 1999
• Working Tax Credit run on - paid 4 weeks after you stop qualifying for Working Tax Credits
• Universal Credit, with an income of £7400 or less
