Overview

At Newport Primary School, our curriculum is built around key Golden Threads that weave through every subject, ensuring that children develop a deep understanding of essential themes that shape their learning journey.  These threads are carefully chosen to reflect the needs of our children and the world around them, helping them grow into well-rounded, informed, and compassionate individuals.  Through these Golden Threads, we ensure that learning at Newport Primary School is meaningful, relevant, and inspiring - preparing children for life in an ever-changing world.

Diversity, Inclusion and Belonging

'Diversity is having a seat at the table, inclusion is having a voice and belonging is having that voice heard.'

We recognise the importance of fostering an inclusive and accepting community.  While our school is predominantly mono-ethnic, we are committed to ensuring that all children develop an appreciationn for the diverse world around them.  Our curriculum is carefully designed to actively promote acceptance, understanding and respect different cultures, religions and traditions.  This is reflected in the stories children read in their class and in the PSHE/RSE, geography and history topics they study.  By exposing children to a broad range of perspectives and experiences, we aim to broaden their worldviews and prepare them to be empathic, global citizens.

We also ensur our learning enviornment reflects our inclusive ethos; ensuring that children from all backgrounds can recognise themselves in their learning and in their school.

School Values in Action

'Education without moral values is like a ship without a compass...merely wandering.'

Our school values - kindness, resilience, communication, creativity and pride are embedded in all aspects of school life.  We provide children with meaningful opportunities to develop and apply these values in a range of ways, such as:

  • kindness - through peer mentoring, buddy systems and charitable initiatives children learn to support and care for one another.
  • resilience - growth mindset activities and outdoor challenges help children embrace setbacks as part of the learning process.
  • communication - drama, debate and collaborative projects encourage children to express themselves with confidence and clairty
  • creativity - art, music and problem-solving tasks inspire children to think outside the box and develop their unique talents
  • pride - children are nurtured to take pride in themselves, their school enviornment and in their school work

The World through our Window

"Nature is a tool to get children to experience not just the wider world, but themselves."

Research shows that time spent in nature supports children's well-being, development, and academic success.  At Newport Primary School, we are fortunate to have an expansive field, two playgrounds, a music garden and our own woodland space - all of which are used throughout the year to enhance learning and inspire curiosity.

Our location also provides a unique opportunity to explore the impact of transport and connectivity on our lives, situated near Stansted airport, major train lines and motorway networks, we help children to understand the role of transport in shaping local and global communities.  This is reflected in our curriculum, where children explore themes such as travel, trade and enviornmental sustainability.
