Remote Education

Remote education is only considered as a last resort where a decision has already been made that attendance at school is not possible, but children are able to continue learning.  Attendance is essentail for children to get the most out of their school exprience including for their attainment, wellbeing, and wider life chances.

Remote education is not viewed as an equal alternative to attendance in school.  It can only be considered if it is the last resort and only after it has been established that the child is, or will be, absent from school.  Scenarios where remote education should be considered would full into 2 broad categories:

  • school closure or restrictions on attendance, where school access for children is restricted
  • individual cases where a child is unable to attend school but is able to learn

These circumstances are for only short term absences and will be based on a case-by-case basis.  For clarity a child being unable to attend but is able to learn might be considered as a child recovering from a short term infectious illness, preparing for or recovering from some operations or recovering from injuries where attendance might inhibit recovery.

Our remote education offer is reviewed on a regular basis.  We seek feedback from parents/carers after remote education has been implemented.

Communication about the remote education will be sent to parents/carers as soon as possible via email or ClassDojo.  This may inlcude links to specific websites and/or links to specific online lessons through The Oak Academy.

In extreme circumstances online lessons via Teams may be set up and children invited to join, however, if the school find themselves in this situation parents will be notified and support will be provided for those families who may not have access to ICT equipment to facilitate this.
