  • Community Cafe January 24

    Fri 19 Jan 2024

On Friday 19th January, we held our first Newport Community café; it was decided by staff that the first of this monthly event would be to invite grandparents from the community into school and we had a fabulous turn out. It was great to see the Year 6 showing their organisational skills in setting up the hall and in preparing for the event and then to see them show great maturity in running the event when our guests arrived. Everyone enjoyed tea, coffee and cake (that was the best bit for some of the Year 6’s!) and there was much flowing conversation and game playing for the next hour and a half. We received lovely feedback from a number of grandparents, which was lovely to hear and many were looking forward to coming back again. Next month’s community café is going to be led by Year 5 and they will be visiting Debden Grange for banana bread and a sing-a-long!

  • Young Voices at the 02

    Mon 15 Jan 2024

After months of anticipation and endless hours of perfecting the songs and learning the moves, the day finally arrived and we were off to the O2 to perform in the Young Voices Choir Concert 2024. Soon, we were at the 02 and we made our way into the spectacular foyer and waited patiently to be admitted. Once inside, we were checked in and found a space to eat our packed lunch. We had a fabulous view from our seats and from 2pm until 5pm, we practiced our songs with some of the celebrities including DJ Grammar and Nandi Bushell and the live band. After that, we had some free time to eat our dinner, before the parents arrived, and then the concert began at 7pm. We sang and danced our hearts out throughout the concert, remembering parts and dance moves and loved every minute of it!

All of the singing and dancing meant that both adults and children alike were extremely tired by the time the concert finished, but it was a day of fabulous memories - fun, friendships, teamwork, perseverance and focus; we will reflect on an inspiring day that we will remember forever. This was such a fantastic opportunity for the children to be part of the Young Voices Choir – the largest children’s choir concerts in the world, and one that the children will cherish for lifetime.
