Every child in our school is in a house group. All siblings are in the same house group. Children stay in these house groups for their entire time at Newport Primary School. At the beginning of an academic year children from Oak Class are nominated house captains. Each member of staff, excluding the Headteacher is also a member of the house groups. Every week house points are awarded to children for following the school rules, for demonstrating the school values, for effort with their learning amongst many other reasons. A running total is kept and winners are announced each week during celebration assembly, where the house ribbons are also put on the house cup. At the end of a term the winners are announced. Their reward is to wear non-uniform the first Friday back in the new term.
Each house is named after one of the three rivers: Debden (yellow), Granta (red) and Wicken (blue), which all flow through the village.
