MIND

The new Mental Health Support Team, run by local charity Mind in West Essex, has been commissioned to work across 20 schools within Uttlesford to support children and young people with their wellbeing and they aim to help all children to succeed, achieve their full potential, and learn strategies to enable them to live healthy lives. Newport Primary School has been lucky enough to be one of the schools that has been chosen to be supported by an Educational Mental Health Practitioner (EMHP), working in collaboration with school staff. Fox class (year 4) undertook a course of 8 ‘Brain Buddies’ sessions to help the children support their mental health and wellbeing by identifying and understanding emotions, and learning strategies they can use to support their emotional regulation such as distraction techniques, yoga and body scan. The final session saw the children demonstrate their new skills and understanding to their parents.
