Curriculum

The curriculum is based around themes for each half term or term. The main topic embodies elements from many subjects and is cross-curricular. This ensures that learning is more relevant and is directed towards the interest of the children.

Newport Primary School continues to deliver the National Curriculum for England comprising of: English, Mathematics, Science, Computing, History Geography, Art, Design & Technology (D&T), Physical Education (PE), Music. In addition to this we teach French and Religious Education (RE) – based on the Essex Agreed Syllabus.

Pupils in Reception and Key Stage 1 are taught phonics through Read Write Inc. Read Write Inc. was developed by Ruth Miskin, provides a structured and systematic approach to teaching literacy. It is used by more than a quarter of the UK’s primary schools and is designed to create fluent readers, confident speakers and willing writers.
