Welcome to ‘Rocking Robins’ class page! Our teacher is Miss O’Riordan and our teaching assistants are Mrs Ellis and Mrs Knight, who all help us to learn. We are also have Mr Murfitt and Mr Duers, our specialist sports coaches who teach us for PE twice a week.
Robins are known to be the symbol of passion and honour, which we thinks describes us perfectly. We are super passionate about our learning and we honour our class and school at all times.
We are a hardworking team that enjoy challenging ourselves and helping others with work when they need it.
Our topic for the Autumn term was Ancient Greece.
Our topics for the Spring term were: Earth & Space and Anglo-Saxon Britain.
Our topics for the Summer term are: Extreme Earth, Vikings and Life-Cycles.
Check out our pictures below to see what we have been up to so far this year.
On Friday 18th January, it was discovered that a strange object had landed on the school field overnight. A detective from the STELLAR investigation team was called to investigate and luckily Robin class were on hand to help inspect the area. The children spent the morning helping to examine the cordon of evidence. Robin class then completed some research to support their findings and as a class we concluded that it was in fact a meteorite that had landed in the school field! Robin class then spent the rest of the day exploring different areas of our Earth and Space topic. We had worked up quite an appetite from the morning investigation so tucked into some real life ‘Space food’ before lunch. After lunch, it was boys Vs girls in ‘fruity space race’ where the children had to create the solar system using different size fruits. We also learnt a rhyme and song to help us remember the order of planets in the solar system. To finish off the day, the children each took on the role of a planet and we re-created the solar system in the school hall using correct orbit speeds for each planet. A WOW day that really was…out of this world!
We had lots of fun exploring different areas of the world and finding out where to locate each of the biomes. We worked in team and used books and laptops to research about our chosen biome. Using this information we used lots of different materials to create a mini version of our biome, to make it - a biome in a box!
Feeling inspired by our Geography topic for this term, we chose to create a piece of artwork based on the rainforest.
Firstly, we practised sketching lots of different vegetation found in the rainforest. Next, we worked together as a whole class and followed a step-by-step guide on how to draw a toucan and a tree frog. We then put all of these ideas together and created a piece of work that we felt allowed us to 'peek into the rainforest'.
Robin class were able to use pencil to sketch out their picture; they then used a black fine liner to 'edge out' their drawings; and to finish off, they used oil pastels to create beautifully blended colours.
In 'Circle Time' this week we discussed ways in which we can help promote positive awareness for mental health.
Feel good Friday - sharing happy experiences from the past week or sharing things we are excited about and looking forward to in the coming weeks.
Sending positive vibes :)
