Swimming Information
What do children need to bring in on swimming days?
- A swimming costume or close fitting shorts. Board shorts and bikinis are not suitable.
- A swimming hat. (Plastic or cloth)
- A towel
- A waterproof bag to store their wet things in
- Slip on footwear to walk to and from the pool area (optional)
- A dressing gown or towel poncho or similar, to walk to and from the pool in.
Some children can already swim very well, will there be different levels of swimming available, so those that are more experienced are getting value from the lesson?
- The children will be divided into groups according to ability.
Does each child have to participate?
- As swimming is part of the national curriculum, we hope that every child will be able to take advantage of this amazing opportunity.
If a child does not participate, what will he/she be doing instead?
- Each swimming group will be made up of 12 pupils. If the child does not swim, they will be with the remainder of their class.
Is there a shower facility before/afterwards? One parent has a child with sensitive skin and she is worried that the chlorine may dry out his/her skin?
- We have a shower in the school where the children can rinse off, if they have a medical condition.
Where will the children get changed?
- Children will get changed in their classrooms. Boy and girls will get changed separately.
Where is the pool located?
- The pool will be located on the Key Stage 2 playground. It is housed in a secure marquee, which can be locked when it is not in use.
If the pool is outside, will there be changing facilities within the outdoor setting, or will children be required to walk from the school to the pool?
- The children will get changed in their classroom and walk to the pool.
Where will the children’s swimming costumes/towels be stored after use?
- We ask that each child has a waterproof bag to store their wet swimming costumes and towels in, this will be kept on their peg.
Do the children need to wear swimming hats?
- Yes all pupils will need to wear a swimming hats. If your child cannot wear a hat due to sensory needs, please let the office or teacher know.
