BMX Champion leads the way

BMX champion Mike Mullen came to Newport to talk to the whole school about Growth mindset, his rise ( and falls!) to becoming British champion and to show us his skills. He led an assembly showing us pictures from his childhood, along with his stories of learning to not give up through, what he calls 'flearning'. He then taught Mr Murfitt one of his early skills on a BMX and he then treated the school to an amazing performance in the playground. The volunteering teachers were used as 'dummies' for his ramp jump....and we're pleased to say that he cleared them by miles! In the afternoon, Mike bought bikes with him and gave BMX workshop sessions to children in KS2, focusing on growth mindset and the power of yet. It was a truly remarkable day.
