Poppies at the Church

Remembrance Sunday was a joyful event as both the youngest child in school, along with one of the oldest in the school, laid the wreaths on behalf of the Newport school community.

Every class made different poppies during the week, after learning all about the significance of poppies and recognising the 11th September as a significant date in history. An assembly was held on Friday with the whole school to mark this event and the children completed their 2 minutes silence at 11am.

The poppies, made in school, were made into two wreaths, which were taken to St Mary's on Sunday for the Church service. The two children walked respectfully amongst the Beavers, Brownies, Rainbows and Cubs and then laid their wreaths alongside those from the whole community. It was a very poignant service to be part of and one, which we recognise as being important to always mark with our children.
