World Book Day...and potato characters!

The school was a buzz of excitement and activity today as the children came in dressed as their favourite book characters and brought with them their decorated potato characters.

Every creature from rabbits and unicorns to cats and tigers came in, along with Harry Potters, dinosaurs, Spidermen and even a soldier from War Horse; the outfits were, once again, amazing and the children really entered into the spirit of things.

In classes, we all used the same book 'The Boy, The Mole, The Fox and The Horse' By Charlie Mackesy - a beautiful book with simple messages about friendship and kindness. We all themed work around this with classes: drawing and collaging the animals, sketching images, creating their own messages/phrases and thinking about particular pages and responding to them in different ways. The book has provoked lots of thinking this week in school.

We were lucky enough to also have another author visit from Bob Barnes, a local author, and his books about Arrek the Dragon. He led three workshops to the KS2 children and told them tales of dragons and all about the writing process - all while dressed in a dragon coat!

The teachers joined in with the dressing up but were all themed as Mr Men and Little Miss - the children had great fun in assembly trying to name us all!

Our other project - the potato characters- were an amazing addition to the day and are proudly displayed in the entrance hall along with books. The children (and their parents) are so creative...they look amazing - take a look!
