Young Minds Matter!
Newport Primary School hosted an inspiring talk on Monday evening, organised by Mrs Pine which addressed some of the mental health challenges facing our young people today.
Steve Mallen, founder of the MindEd Trust, gave an informative and emotional talk to members of the local community, school groups and parents, drawing on his own deep personal experience following the tragic death of his son through mental illness.
Steve, who works closely with the government, not only talked about his own loss but also reflected on the current provision for diagnosis and support around mental health. It was reassuring to know that he is working tirelessly to reform legislation that will benefit our young people in years to come.
The event was well attended and it raised questions in a discussion which followed. As Mrs Pine started the evening by saying ‘It takes a village to raise a child’ so we all hope to build upon this to reduce the stigma around this important subject and help our youngsters thrive.
